Chubykin

We started off with a block of Czochralski sapphire rough. The first thing I’m doing is setting up the center point of the stone and then from there I can start establishing the size and shape of the gem.

I going to kind of fast forward to the next stage where the outline and all of the facets have been roughed in. And then I begin the pre-polish sequence. Pre-polish gets out all of the deep scratches left over from the rough-in stage that you saw before and leaves it looking almost in a polish.

Now we see the pre-polished stone that is ready for a final polish.

To the camera, there isn’t much difference between the pre-polish and the final polish. I will take a few pics of the final polish but you won’t see a lot of difference.

3/20/2025 – And today the pavilion of your gem is finished. See the video below…

And after I took the videos, I got the gem prepped and it is now in the transfer fixture so that I can flip the gem over and start cutting the crown. With any luck that process will start tomorrow.

3/24/2025 – The last couple of days have been spent working on the crown. It is harder to tell what’s going on because due to the design, the cutting isn’t as sequential as most cuts I do. But I anticipate being done in the next couple of days.

3/28/2025 – And yesterday I finished your gem. See the video below for several different views of the stone.
